Batch 27 is the cask strength version of M&O Smoke


Why Batch 27?  M&O Spirits tested 26 separate mashbills before determining the 27th was perfect.  The 27th mashbill is the standard for M&O Spirits

M&O Spirits was named Craft Distillery of the Year at the 2023 John Barleycorn Awards


Mash bill: 58% corn, 17.5% malted barley, 14% rye, 10.5% wheat


The corn, rye, and wheat are grown in Marysville, OH


The barley malt is a high enzyme distillers malt out of Canada


Double pot distilled


Type of still: 200 gallon &50 gallon pot stills. The 200 gallon is the stripping still and the 50 gallon is a copper column finishing still. 


All whiskey from M&O Spirits are single barrel bottlings


Still manufacturer: Affordable Distillery Equipment (Doniphan, MO)


Length of fermentation: 14-16 days…allowing the esters to develop the fruit notes that are so prevalent in M&O Spirits’ whiskeys

The new barrel is filled with whiskey and 12 smothered white oak staves are added to the barrel.

Palate 👅: Vanilla. Plum. Caramel. Maple Nut Goodies. Barrel char. Thick & oily mouthfeel.


Finish 🏁: Nougat. Nutmeg. Maple Nut Goodies. Dried cherry.  Barrel char. Long in length.


This of the fourth offering I’ve tried from M&O.  I have deeply enjoyed all of them, but I think this one is my personal favorite.


You might not have heard of this distillery yet, but they are definitely worth your attention.  I’ve slipped completely blind samples to a couple of friends who know good whiskey…and they were all highly impressed as well.
